Tesla sales in Europe fell 40% because of outdated models and political disputes

Despite the overall increase in the popularity of electric cars (EV) in Europe, Tesla sales have been significantly falling by more than 40% compared to last year. This reflects the serious problems that the company faces in the European market, according to Financial Times from March 25.

According to the European Association of Car Manufacturers, in February 2025, Tesla sold only 16 888 cars in Europe, which is 40% less than 28 182 cars sold in the same period of 2024.

The main reasons for the fall in sales are the outdated Tesla models, increased competition in the electric vehicle market and political disputes over its owner Ilon Mask. Experts say that the political positions of the mask, including its support for far -right groups and ties with the administration of former US President Donald Trump, have a negative impact on the company's image in Europe. It also enhances the Tesla boycott movement and increases the political tension, which is reflected in its sales.

Reducing Tesla's share in the European market also indicates the company's problems. In February 2025, it amounted to only 1.8% compared to 2.8% in February 2024.

These negative trends contrast with the total growth of sales of electric cars in Europe, which has increased by 26% compared to last year. Demand for electric cars also continues to grow in countries such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, where there is a high level of demand for other brands of electric cars.
