On January 23, mass protests against the policy of Prime Minister Robert Fitzo began in Slovakia. Demonstrations have taken place in many Slovak cities under the slogan "Slovakia is Europe", reports a local edition of Aktuality .
The actions were organized by the initiative "Mir of Ukraine" together with opposition political parties. Demonstrations of solidarity in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Ireland joined the protests in Slovakia.
Thousands of citizens came out in cities such as Kosice. According to the media, about 15,000 people protested in Kosice alone. The police provided order on the sites of rallies, urging protesters to comply with security and respect the laws.
Despite the scale of protest shares, some cities have witnessed contracts. Opponents of the protest movement gathered under the slogan "Slovakia - not Ukraine". However, their number was much smaller: in Bratislava only 40 people came to such an action.
The slogan "Slovakia is Europe" has become a symbol of dissatisfaction with Fitzo politics, which the population considers a waste from European values. Activists express their solidarity with Ukraine and seek to preserve the European course of the country.
