In the west, Europe recorded an extremely rare phenomenon - a cloud of dust that rose from the Sahara Desert. According to information, dust from the African desert is an orange in an orange shade above some of France, Switzerland and southern Germany. "Dust from Sahara has already got, and you can see yellowish cloudiness in the air," said the German Meteorological Service Meteorologist Christian Herald.
It is warned that dust can be noticeable in the air and on Easter Sunday. From 60 to 200 million tonnes of mineral dust rises annually from the Sahara. The largest particles settle quickly, but small particles can sometimes fly long distances. Despite its favorable conditions, a cloud of dust affected the quality of air in some areas.
In Switzerland, high air pollution was recorded throughout the corridor from the southwestern to the northeast of the country. The Swiss TV and Radio Company SRF reported that the volume of dust is approximately 180 thousand tons - twice as usual.
In France, some areas have exceeded the threshold of air pollution, and local authorities have warned residents about possible negative effects on health due to intense physical activity.
This phenomenon has already led to a tragedy in Spain, where two people were killed after falling into the sea, when the coast of the country was influenced by the Nelson storm, which was approaching the British islands.
