Raphael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Agency Agency on April 16 will arrive in the capital of Iran on an official visit. According to Iranian state media, his visit is agreed during a telephone conversation between him and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Abbas Arabchi.
According to the Irna news agency, Grossi plans to meet both Aragchi and Iran President Masud Pesashkian. The meetings are expected to discuss the key issues related to the fulfillment of Iran's obligations under the nuclear agreement and in general - with the development of cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA.
This visit is of particular importance against the backdrop of the expected new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding the future nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. Although the details of future negotiations have not yet been made public, analysts suggest that the parties can return to discussing parameters similar to a common comprehensive action plan (JCPOA), from which the United States came out in 2018.
For its part, the IAEA has repeatedly expressed anxiety by insufficient level of transparency by Iran, in particular due to limited access by inspectors to nuclear objects of the country and the presence of unknown reserves of uranium enriched to levels close to the military.
Grossi's visit can be an important attempt to restore confidence between Iran and the international community, as well as reduce tension that has increased again after a number of incidents in the Middle East and increased pressure on Tehran by the Western powers.
At the same time, Iran emphasizes that its nuclear program is only peaceful. However, the West continues to strictly check all the country's actions in this area, citing the need to prevent the emergence of new nuclear states in the region.
