Record sale: a postage stamp in the USA was sold for two million dollars

A new record has been auctioned in New York: the inverted Jenny postage stamp was sold for an impressive amount of two million dollars. Although this is not a record in the World Philately, as in the case of the most expensive brand of British Guiana, sold for $ 9.5 million nine years ago, but it was a new record for the brand released in the United States.

The outstanding "Inverted Jenny" dates from 1918, and its nominal value was 24 cents. The uniqueness of this brand is that it depicts the Curtiss Jn-4 postal aircraft, called Jenny, which was mistakenly printed upside down.

The error in the stamp was noticed quickly, but a sheet of 100 specimens still got into circulation. Philateral collectors who retained these rare specimens were ready to spend a lot of money. A well-known collector, 76-year-old Charles Hack, purchased this brand at Robert A Siegel Auction Galleries auction for a record amount of two million dollars.

This is no longer the first heck instance of "Inverted Jenny". He received the first at the beginning of the century for about $ 300,000, and the second - in 2007 for almost a million dollars. Now, having put on this last two million, Charles Hack adds another extraordinary copy to his collection. Since this particular number 49 out of one hundred has practically not reached light for 105 years, it has been preserved in exceptionally good condition compared to others.

In 2018, this instance was first auctioned because its owner and his heirs kept it in a bank safe for a century. According to the philatelists, Mark is striking with rich colors and light paper. Charles Hack expressed his intention to further keep this unique copy from the action of light.
