During a full -scale war in Ukraine, Russia launched a new strategy for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or Shahmed. Previously, these drones have been used for point strokes, then in recent months they have become the main tool for long -term intelligence flights. Aviation expert Bogdan Dolinz told this on Kiev24, commenting on recent attacks.
"Long -term flights are a novelty in recent months," said Dollens, emphasizing that the new tactics involves long -lasting drones. Now UAVs fly at a considerable height, usually at 2 or more kilometers, and at a speed of 150 km/h and above.
These parameters are chosen not by accident: the height and speed make drones less vulnerable to portable anti-aircraft missile complexes (MAG) and mobile lesions. Air defense systems can usually destroy such drones only through expensive missiles, which forces Ukraine to spend valuable resources on their defense.
One of the main goals of long -term flight tactics is not only the task of harm, but also an attempt to weaken the Ukrainian air defense. According to the expert, drones are used for intelligence purposes, helping Russia to monitor the location and activity of Ukrainian air defense systems.
"Of course, Russians can monitor and understand where the air defense is, where one or the other aviation is flying, trying to track it or hit it when it will try to intercept a particular drone," Dolinse added.
Interestingly, long -lasting drones not only lead to rocket systems, but also create an additional burden on defense resources. According to the head, drones flying 500-600 km provoke the use of expensive missiles, which cost from hundreds of thousand to million dollars, while the drone itself costs about $ 60,000. It is part of the strategy of depletion of Ukraine's resources so that in the future there is nothing to repel more serious threats such as hostile missiles.
On August 26, Russia made one of the largest combined strikes in the territory of Ukraine throughout the war. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that on this day, Russian invaders launched more than a hundred rockets of different types and about a hundred "Shahmed". Like most previous Russian attacks, this blow was aimed at critical civilian infrastructure, Zelensky emphasized.
