The role of the United States in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah

The world is watching the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which may lead to an even wider regional confrontation. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, is closely monitoring the development of events and is actively involving his senior officials in consultations with Israeli partners, confirming the readiness of the United States to support Israel in its right to self-defense and work to stabilize the situation in the region.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah reached a new critical point on Sunday, when the Iranian-backed Lebanese movement launched hundreds of rockets and drones into Israeli territory. This was in direct response to the assassination of Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander, in Beirut last month. The movement reported that it fired more than 320 Katyusha rockets, which hit 11 military targets in Israel. Hezbollah announced that the strike had completed the "first phase" of their response, but added that a full response was still to come.

Against the background of the aggravation of the situation, the United States emphasized its support for Israel. National Security Council representative Sean Savett confirmed that high-ranking US officials are in constant communication with their Israeli counterparts and support Israel's right to self-defense. "We will continue to work on regional stability," Savett said.

The escalation also comes at a time when negotiators are trying to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Gaza and return the hostages. In parallel with the attacks carried out by Hezbollah on Israel, negotiations continued in Cairo, where possible conditions for the cessation of hostilities and the exchange of hostages were discussed.

With Hezbollah vowing to continue its actions in response to the death of its commander, the region could become an arena for an even larger conflict. Iranian influence interests through Hezbollah and other regional players could further complicate the situation, while the US and its allies try to prevent further escalation.
