Russian hackers attacked Romania's government sites during the presidential election

Romania was a victim of cyberattacks when Russian hackers attacked a number of important government sites and pages of presidential candidates during the first round of the presidential election. The attack was carried out by a hacker group Noname057, which is known in its pro -Kremlin activity.

According to the Romanian G4Media Information Agency, the main goals of the hackers were the websites of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice of Romania, as well as the Constitutional Court and the Main Government Portal. In addition, websites of presidential candidates, including representatives of the ruling coalition, such as Krin Antonescu, as well as the mayor of Bucharest Nikushra Dana, who acts as an independent candidate, were broken. The Noname057 hackers, which became known thanks to a cyberattack series for government websites and media in Ukraine, the USA and other European countries, has taken responsibility for this attack. They published a statement on their Telegram channel, which confirmed that their actions were aimed at breaking the normal work of Romanian government resources during important elections. The Romanian National Cyber ​​Security Directorate reported that websites were already in operation at 14:00 in Romanian time, that is, despite the attack, measures were quickly taken to restore their work. However, the fact of the attack emphasizes the importance of protecting digital infrastructures, especially in political elections.

Noname057 is a pro -Russian hacker group that actively conducts cyberattacks on state websites, media and private companies in several countries. The purpose of the group is to spread pro -Kremliv propaganda, as well as to escalating tensions in the West by performing attacks on key infrastructure, in particular in NATO countries.
