Russian special services have developed plans to organize operations in order to prevent the entry of Finland and Sweden to the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). According to the Yle Finnish edition, Moscow planned to use incitement campaigns for demonstrations in these countries and other stocks to achieve their goals.
According to a secret reconnaissance report, which published Yle, Russian intelligence services intended to cause violent demonstrations and strengthen the fear of Islam in Finland and Sweden. The plans included incitement in the demonstrations that imitated the burning of the Koran in Sweden, in order to increase the tension and the "friction" between Turkey and the countries of the European Union and NATO.
Law enforcement officers confirmed that they were aware of the plans of Russian special services to incite demonstrations in Finland.
The report also describes the specific methods that were planned to be used, such as the organization of demonstrations, the ridicule of Turkish President and the spread of graffiti and inscriptions against Islam and Erdogan.
Journalists received information not only about plans, but also about the operation in Paris in March 2023, when demonstrations against Islam and Turkey were organized.
The introduction of Finland and Sweden to NATO remains a topical topic, and Turkey is a limiting factor for Sweden due to disagreement with respect to ratification. Nevertheless, Turkish President Erdogan has signed a protocol on Sweden's accession to NATO, and now this issue is being considered in the Turkish Parliament. The media reported that voting can be postponed by the end of the year, given the position of Turkish rulers.
