Russia is intensifying its counteroffensive in the Kursk region

On October 10, Russian troops began a large -scale counter -attack in the Kursk region, aiming at displacing Ukrainian forces to worsen weather conditions in the fall and winter. According to the American Institute of War Study (ISW), the Russian forces have intensified their attacks in several directions, in particular in Glushkiv district, on the left flank of the main Ukrainian speech in the Koreniv district, as well as on the right flank in the Sudzhansky district.

Russian military correspondents claim that the Russian troops have managed to surround two Ukrainian battalions in the Koreniv district, but the ISW analysts have not yet confirmed these statements. The Russians also state that they have displaced Ukrainian forces from most of the Glushkivskyi district on October 10 and 11, although ISW has no visual evidence of this offensive.

The goals of the Russian counter -offensive

ISW analysts suggest that Russian counterattacks have two main goals. First, the Russian military command seeks to displace the Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region before the autumn-winter period, when the deterioration of weather conditions will restrict maneuvers on the battlefield. In such circumstances, the fighting will become positional, which will give the Ukrainian forces more time to consolidate in the occupied positions and strengthen the defense.

Secondly, Russia is trying to quickly release its forces to direct them to priority offensive actions in the Donetsk region. The Russian command hopes to complete operations in the Kursk region and transfer troops to the Donetsk region to achieve operational goals, including the capture of Pokrovsk and the liquidation of the Ukrainian speech in the west of the region.

According to the Commander -in -Chief of the Armed Forces Alexander Sirsky, Russia has transferred about 50,000 soldiers to the Kursk region, weakening its position in other areas of the front in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainian sources, such as DeepState , confirm that Russian troops were able to sell the left flank of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. However, on October 11, the Center for Combating Misinformation at the NSDC stated that the Ukrainian army disrupted the plans of the Russians, causing significant casualties in the occupants.
