Russia has declared its readiness to carry out the largest exchange of prisoners during the war, giving Ukraine 630 soldiers in Russian captivity. According to Maria Zakharova, the Ministry of Foreign Ministry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this exchange will be on parity and is part of the plan for preparation for further such measures. If this is confirmed, the exchange will be the largest in the entire period of the war.
Maria Zakharova stated that Russia is ready to immediately transfer 630 Ukrainian prisoners of war to Kiev. This message has drawn some attention, since over the course of the war the military exchanges were carried out on a smaller scale. The greatest exchange took place in January this year, when each side handed over 195 prisoners. If the new exchange occurs, it will be the largest number of captives, which will be transferred between the parties to the conflict.
At the beginning of November this year, Zakharova already mentioned the possibility of exchange of 935 Ukrainian prisoners, but this proposal was not implemented. The most recent exchange took place on October 18, when both parties returned 95 people. The process was carried out through the united Arab Emirates, which became an important stage in the implementation of the Agreements for the return of prisoners.
Given the size of the proposed exchange, this step may be important in the context of interaction between Ukraine and Russia in the issues of the humanitarian aspects of the war. However, it should be noted that the issue of prisoners' exchange is part of a complex and tense process, accompanied by numerous diplomatic and legal obstacles.
