Summit G7 without a common statement about Ukraine

According to the results of the G7 Summit, which is taking place in Canada, a concerted statement on war in Ukraine will not be approved. The reason was the opposition by US President Donald Trump, who opposed the wording that could limit his maneuvers in the event of further negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources in the Canadian government.

Instead of a traditional final declaration with a clear position on Ukraine, the issue will be made to a separate document - the statement of the summit chairman. This decision demonstrates the lack of consensus among G7 leaders in the key for international security.

In parallel, the United Kingdom, France and Ukraine are negotiating as part of the so -called "Coalition of those". The possibility of placement of British and French military units in Ukraine to protect important facilities is discussed - subject to a safe distance from the Russian border. However, the implementation of this initiative is complicated by the United States position that does not currently plan to provide Ukraine with security guarantees after the active phase of war is over.

British Prime Minister Cyrus Starmer's office confirmed that during the G7 summit he was negotiating with President Vladimir Zelensky. The parties agreed to further strengthen Ukraine's military support, in particular on the supply of weapons and training of personnel.

Despite the absence of a single position on Ukraine, the participants of the summit have approved a number of other important documents. They relate to the development of artificial intelligence in the state sector, investment in quantum technologies, the fight against forest fires, counteraction to transnational repression and illegal migration.

The G7 Summit format was particularly sensitive to changes in the domestic policy of individual participating countries. The results of the summit demonstrate: although Ukraine's support remains the topic of the international agenda, it is increasingly dependent on the political changes and strategic approaches of individual leaders.
