The US Senate has blocked President Donald Trump's candidates for positions in the State Department due to the possible liquidation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The democratic senator Brian Shatz has announced the full blocking of the appointments, noting that USAID liquidation is illegal and violates the national security of the country. According to the senator, the agency was created by federal law and its cancellation is impossible without the appropriate legislative process.
Shatz stressed that before the cancellation of the "authoritarian" decisions of the Trump administration and the restoration of USAID work, he will block all candidates for positions in the State Department. This, according to the senator, will have serious consequences in the international arena.
The process of approval of candidates in the Senate requires most votes, so although Democrats cannot completely reject candidates, they can delay the process and complicate it for Trump.
