Despite the advanced technologies used in Tesla electric vehicles, their power battery remains a regular lithium-ion battery, and therefore sensitive to deep discharge. Proper care of the battery is no less important than maintaining ICE in traditional cars.
Upon reaching the critical charge level, Tesla provides a series of warnings to the driver. If you ignore them, the car goes into the so -called "turtle" mode - with reduced power and limited speed. It's a chance to get to charging. However, if you do not continue to charge the battery, the electric car is completely disconnected. In this state: the main systems are switched off, only a 12-volt battery (nourishes locks, headlights, alarm) operates, in the case of a 12V car discharge, the car loses all power supply and becomes stationary.
Deep discharge is one of the main threats to the durability of the battery. Scientific research confirms that part of the capacity is lost, chemical processes inside the cells are disrupted, the risk of short circuit, an irreversible decrease in battery life increases. The first step is to "bite" a 12V battery from an external power source. Next - activate the electronics and connect the charger to the main battery. Damage to the 12V battery is not covered by Tesla guarantee. Some tests have shown that Tesla can travel up to 20-25 km after 0%, but it's rather an exception than a rule. The manufacturer does not advise to rely on the reserve, as it is: unreliable, depletes the battery, can lead to expensive breakdown. Do not wait until the last: charge the car when the charge falls below 15-20%. Plan routes based on energy supply. In a critical situation, it is better to call a tow truck than to risk a full stop. Regularly check the condition of 12V battery - it is critical for launch.
Tesla is a modernity on wheels, but even the smartest car will not be able to protect itself from the consequences of deep discharge, if not care. Follow the manufacturer's advice, avoid "extreme" zero and do not rely on a happiness. In the world of electric vehicles, energy is life.
