Former Commander -in -Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, now Ambassador to the UK, Valery Zaluzhny has expressed his position on the possibility of chatting in the upcoming elections. He stated that as long as the war continues, the main task is to preserve the country, not political ambitions.
"My response has not changed. While the war is ongoing, we need to work for the country's preservation, not to think about elections. I do not comment on different rumors," Zaluzhny said, emphasizing the importance of focus on national issues, not political disputes.
Journalists also note that the issue of Valery Zaluzhny's participation in the election remains an important factor in political uncertainty in Ukraine. Some believe that he intends to run in the presidential election, others - that he can lead the political party to participate in the Verkhovna Rada elections. There are also thoughts that he will not participate in the electoral process at all. It is interesting that, despite his role in the state, Zaluzhny began to fall out of the general political context, especially because of his physical absence in Ukraine. This became especially noticeable against the backdrop of the growing political crisis in relations with the United States, where Zaluzhny seems to have not manifested himself so actively. After meeting US Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky in the Oval office, he posted a photo where both leaders hold their hands. Later he made a speech on the destruction of the "Old Order", and that's where his public activity decreased somewhat.
However, for many in Ukraine, Zaluzhny continues to remain a symbol of hope. According to one of the opposition deputies, Ukrainians often do not choose presidents, and therefore the Zaluzhny is the only alternative because "the authorities have completely cleared the field." His image in politics is a symbol of hope for many, and it is this hope that can be an important factor in the election. "Whatever it is difficult, but it will definitely be ashamed," the formula with which Zaluzhny could go to any election sounds very attractive to many Ukrainians.
