The Swedish government has announced the termination of any direct government cooperation with Georgia after the parliamentary elections held on October 26. This was reported by Dagens Nyhereter, referring to the statement of the Minister of Cooperation in the field of development of Benjamin Duza.
Duza noted that, in particular, it is about cooperation between the tax authorities, which the Swedish government considers inappropriate in current circumstances. This decision was a reaction to the election results that raised the issue of Georgia's political course.
At the same time, the Minister expressed his hope that cooperation can be restored in the future if Georgia has seriously entered the EU's application and will show active efforts to strengthen relations with the European Union. "If Georgia turns out to be serious about its application to the EU, and that it protects its relations with the EU, Sweden will open the door," Duza said.
This decision of the Sweden Government can have significant consequences for Georgia, as the country is trying to strengthen its ties with Europe in the context of the desire for European integration. At the same time, this reflects the wider context of political changes in the region and the West's attitude to the Georgian government.
