Slovakia is reviewing the defense agreement with the US and refuses to supply weapons to Ukraine

The New Defense Minister of Slovakia, Robert Kaliniak, announced the country's intention to review the conditions of its defense agreement with the United States and stop the supply of new parties of weapons and ammunition from Slovak warehouses. This statement was made on the social network Facebook. Kalinyak also stressed that the new government of Slovakia will not support previous decisions related to the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

In his message, he stated: "At the meeting, we at the meeting conveyed the position of the Slovak government - we will not send new parties from Slovak warehouses of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, and the defense agreement must be reviewed." This decision is a noticeable change in the foreign and defensive policies of Slovakia.

Earlier, in February 2022, Slovakia concluded a military cooperation agreement from the United States, which gave the US military the right to use two airfields and an obligation to invest $ 100 million in the modernization of Slovakia defense infrastructure. This Agreement strengthened military cooperation between the two countries and meant joint efforts in the field of security and defense.

However, the decision of Slovakia to revise the defense agreement and refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine comes in the context of changes in the country's domestic policy and changes in foreign policy. The Minister of Defense stressed that the new government is not consistent with previous decisions and considers them "failures".
