Hepatitis A outbreak has been recorded in Kyiv, whose epicenter is located in the Solomenskiy district, in particular in the district of Padadny. As of May 20, 76 cases were registered, including 35 children. The information was voiced by the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Kyiv, CEO of the City Center for Control and Diseases Sergey Chumak.
According to Chumak, the preliminary analysis of the situation suggests that the probable cause of the outbreak was the one -time entry of contaminated water into the water supply network. All cases identified with accommodation in the territory of one neighborhood. During the epidemiological investigation, it was found that residents complained of water quality before mass infection. Water tests have found a high content of ammonia and reduced residual chlorine level, which indicates a decrease in the efficiency of decontamination.
Together with the district administration, a large -scale survey of all sources of water supply is being prepared, including monitoring of wells and places of possible flooding or leakage of sewage water to the water supply.
Particular attention is paid to organizing school food, as all children who became ill use the services of a single food supplier. The State Consumer Service checks the activities of the company that provides food in the schools of the district. It is established whether this link could contribute to the spread of infection.
Free tests of residents of the area are now being conducted. Such examinations have already identified 15 additional cases of viral hepatitis. In total, more than 640 people have been tested within preventive measures.
The condition of patients is mainly satisfactory, all of them are under medical supervision. City authorities and sanitary services urge residents of the area to observe the rules of personal hygiene, boil water before use and consult a doctor in case of symptoms such as general weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, darkening of urine or yellowing of the skin.
The investigation of the causes is ongoing. In case of confirmation of violations by communal or private structures, penalties and other administrative measures may be applied.
