In the Chernivtsi region, since the beginning of 2025, 104 cases of measles have been recorded, which exceeds the rates of all last year. This was reported by the chief epidemiology of the region Natalia Gopko at a briefing, Ukrinform .
According to Gopko, until November 2024 the measles cases were isolated, but at the end of the year the outbreak began. In January 2025, doctors record from 2 to 9 new cases.
Doctors emphasize that measles is dangerous not only because of the course of the disease, but also because of complications, such as pneumonia. Currently, one child is in serious condition due to a concomitant disease, Maria Polishchuk, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Chernivtsi Ova, said.
Epidemiologists remind that timely vaccination is the most effective way of protection. Most infected children have not been vaccinated or have been vaccinated with a schedule.
The first cases are associated with the stay of children in neighboring Romania, where the measles outbreak was previously recorded. Currently, the worst situation is observed in the border regions: Chernivtsi, Odessa and Transcarpathian regions.
