Special Representative of US President Donald Trump Steve Witkoff postponed his planned visit to Russia after it became known about the reluctance of Vladimir Putin to discuss the proposed peace plan for Ukraine. It is reported by Financial Times with reference to three knowledgeable sources.
According to the newspaper, Vitcoff learned about the Kremlin's position during consultations with high -ranking Russian officials. It was this refusal that caused the cancellation or transfer of a trip to Moscow. However, according to a source close to Vitcoff, such a trip "was not planned at all".
The peace plan that Trump's representative intended to present includes 22 points. It was developed in cooperation with Ukrainian and European representatives. The initiative was discussed in the format of a telephone conversation with the participation of the Presidential Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, as well as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special advisor Kelt Kellog.
In spite of these efforts, European diplomatic circles express doubts about the effectiveness of Trump initiatives. One of the high -ranking diplomats involved in the coordination of Western approaches to the war in Ukraine said:
"Putin does exactly as much as Trump is needed to see that he is involved in the search for peace, at the same time, not really seeking any progress. And Trump believes him."
