Many Western companies that have previously planned to withdraw from the Russian market are forced to view their decisions. According to Financial Times, the reasons for this are the growth of bureaucratic obstacles and restoration of consumer activity in the country.
In particular, it is about Avon Products, Air Liquide and Reckitt, who previously voiced plans to get out of the Russian Federation.
“Many European companies are between hammer and anvil. They said they would go. They were given the choice of buyers who were unacceptable to them, ”says one of the executives who work with Western companies in the Russian Federation.
According to the Kiev School of Economics, since 2022 there are more than 2,100 transnational corporations left in Russia, 387 came out, and 1223 reduced their activities.
Moscow has created a number of obstacles to those who want to get out: it has introduced a compulsory discount of 50% for assets from "unfriendly" countries sold to Russian buyers; 15% of the tax tax. It is also difficult to find a buyer in the Russian Federation, which is not forbidden by Western sanctions.
“Some of these companies have built four to five factories over 30 years. They are not going to sell it with a 90 percent discount, ”says FT source.
Many were amazed by the experience of companies such as Carlsberg and Danone, whose assets were confiscated after the exit plans were announced.
Some companies admit that their investors "do not care" or leave the Russian Federation.
