The US is ready to increase pressure on Russia

US President Donald Trump called "probable" imposition of new sanctions against Russia if Moscow does not agree to negotiate the war with Ukraine. He stated this on January 21 when communicating with journalists in the White House, reports Ukrinform.

Trump stressed that the United States is ready to increase the sanction pressure on Russia if it does not take steps towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict. In addition, he reported that the US is considering the continuation of weapons supply to Ukraine.

"Further support of Ukraine will depend on dialogues with Putin and Zelensky and willing to conclude an agreement," Trump said.

The US President also added that he appealed to China's chairman, Xi Jinping to assist the settlement of war in Ukraine.

When asked by journalists about the possibility of "freezing" war, Trump replied: "The war did not start, and if you had a competent president - who was not there - then there would be no war."
