The US is preparing new sanctions against Chinese banks

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has announced the preparation of new sanctions against Chinese organizations that contribute to Russia's military activity in Ukraine. In an interview for Bloomberg, he noted that Chinese banks could fall under sanctions.

At the Security Forum in Colorado on July 19, Sullivan expressed deep concern about supporting China of Russia. He stated: "We believe that China should stop because it is deeply outside the decent behavior of nation -states. You can expect additional sanctions as we see how this picture continues to develop in the coming weeks."

Sullivan emphasized the importance of Presidential Decree Joe Biden, issued at the end of last year, which allows the US Ministry of Finance to impose sanctions on banks that contribute to the production of double -purpose goods for the Russian defense industry. "We have introduced this so that when we find a bank that, in our opinion, falls under the regime of sanctions, we will be able to do something with it," he said.

These statements by Sullivan are a warning about the possibility of additional measures for Chinese firms that assist the Russian defense sector. Although China is not currently providing direct military assistance to Russia, NATO leaders at their summit pointed to China as a "decisive factor" in the war. Sullivana's comments indicate that new sanctions are already close.

European and American allies are increasingly concerned about the possibility of Beijing's deadly assistance to Russia. US Finance Minister Janet Ellen has previously stated that China will have "significant consequences" if his companies support Russia's war against Ukraine. She stressed that no company, including Chinese, should provide financial support for Russia.

President Joe Biden also stated that European allies are ready to reduce investments in China if he continues to support Russia. These statements demonstrate the determination of the West to increase the pressure on Beijing in connection with his position on the Russian-Ukrainian war.
