US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the war between Ukraine and Russia should end on conditions that will satisfy both parties. Only this approach, he said, will provide a long -term peace. He said this at a briefing after negotiations with the delegation of the Russian Federation, which took place in Saudi Arabia on February 18.
Rubio stressed that the meeting was an important step in trying to complete the war. He noted that he was now "convinced" of the readiness of Russia for serious dialogue regarding the possible termination of conflict.
"Whether we can achieve this result depends on the readiness of each party to agree to certain conditions," the US Secretary of State said.
According to him, negotiations lay the basis for further contacts, but their success will depend on how much the parties will be prepared not only to undertake, but also to fulfill them. According to Rubio, this will succeed in the coming weeks.
He also stressed that the long -term conflict settlement should take into account the interests of all parties, including Ukraine, European partners and Russia. In addition, the US Secretary of State mentioned the role of the European Union, indicating that sooner or later he would have to join the negotiation process through sanction policy.
Rubio confirmed that some agreements were reached between the US and Russia on a number of issues, but did not disclose the details. He noted that the further development of the situation will depend on diplomatic efforts and the ability of all participants to comply with their obligations.
