The US and Mexico will hold talks on the border situation

In Washington, high -ranking officials from the United States and Mexico will meet to discuss increased cooperation in order to solve the problem of migration on the southern border of the United States. The US delegation will be represented by State Secretary Atony Blinken, Internal Security Minister Alejandro Mayorkas and the White House Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall, and the Mexican delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Alice Barsen.

Biden administration representatives stated that although no serious announcements are expected, they are waiting for a productive conversation based on the previous progress made at the December 27 meeting in Mexico City. The main focus will be on the implementation of sustainable solutions to eliminate the main causes of migration.

Mexico has previously agreed to accept migrants from countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, deported from the US border for illegal crossing. A representative of the Ministry of Internal Security noted that the current migration situation is a regional challenge, since more people have been moved around the world than ever after World War II.

More than 240,000 migrants arrived on the southern border of the United States in November and October 2023. In efforts to reduce illegal migration, the US and Mexico have restored repatriation flights to Venezuela, which is undergoing a political and economic crisis.

Safety measures at the border became a demand for republicans to approve funding for assistance to Ukraine. The position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives on the stringent conditions of border control may affect the speed of assistance.

Last year, a group of far -right republicans, who advocated the reduction of expenditures, tried to block a number of draft laws in Congress to avoid default and funding for the US government. Despite their efforts, these laws were adopted by the voices of both Republicans and Democrats. Thereafter, a group of far -right legislators switched their attention to the situation at the border with Mexico, demanding the approval of funding for further assistance to Ukraine.

These Republicans claim that the best way to ensure their victory at the border is to election former President Donald Trump in November. Trump called Mike Johnson's representative to reject any bilateral border agreement with the Senate.

"I believe that we should not conclude a border agreement if we cannot provide all necessary measures to stop the invasion of millions of people," Trump said on social networks. "I am sure that our wonderful speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, will conclude an agreement that perfectly meets the requirements for the border."
