The US intends to check Russia's readiness for the end of the war in Ukraine. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, it is necessary to find out the requirements of the Russian side to end the conflict. In an interview with Fox News on February 26, Rubio said that the United States had directly asked Russia's question: whether it wants to complete the war or continue fighting.
"We told them: guys, you want to finish the war or want to continue? If you want to put an end to the war, we can talk about what you need to put an end to, from their point of view. If you want to continue the war, just tell us now," Rubio said. According to him, diplomatic teams will be sent for further negotiations to discuss what to do to complete the conflict.
He also stressed that if the Russian demands are overly ambitious or unrealistic, it will be evidence that Moscow does not seek to end the war. "We need to check this proposal. We need to know, and the President (Trump - Ed.) Want to know at the beginning of our presidency, whether the Russians are interested in terminating this war or not," Rubio added.
This statement was made on the eve of a planned meeting between high -level diplomats and Russia, which will take place on February 27 in Istanbul. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, the main topic of the meeting will be the renewal of "normal activity" of embassies in both countries.
