US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Israel agreed to withdraw his military forces from the Gaza Sector in accordance with a recent proposal developed by international mediators. This decision is an important step in the trilateral negotiations that took place in Qatar and confirmation of Israeli readiness for compromise in the context of a long war with Hamas.
Blinken noted that the arrangement clearly defines the schedule and specific places of withdrawal of troops. According to him, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyaga personally confirmed this Agreement during their recent meeting. However, Netanyag himself had previously stated his doubts about the final agreement with Hamas, which created some tension in the negotiation process.
The ceasefire agreement consists of three stages, which eventually envisage the complete removal of the gase. However, there are many unresolved issues, including controlling the border between Egypt and gas, which has historically been used for smuggling of weapons and other goods. Israeli officials insist on the need to find an effective solution to this issue.
Netanyaga stated that Israel would not leave strategically important areas, such as the Philadelphic corridor and the corridor uncepated, under no circumstances. These territories are crucial for the security of Israel, and their maintenance is one of the key requirements of the Israeli side in negotiations.
On the other hand, Hamas insists on the full removal of Gaza and on the return of Palestinian citizens who were forced to leave their homes through hostilities.
The military conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has exacerbated since October 7, 2023, led to massive human casualties on both sides. Hamas carried out rocket firing of Israeli territories, resulting in killed more than 1,200 civilians, and about 250 people were captured by hostages. In response, Israel launched a large -scale military operation in the Gaza sector, which died about 300 military tannas.
According to Hamas, the number of Palestinians killed in the Israeli operation exceeds 40 thousand, and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. However, these figures cannot be verified because Hamas does not separate civilians and military in his statistics.
