The House of Representatives of the US Congress passed a resolution that will avoid a government shutdown that threatened the country due to the lack of agreed budget funding. During the vote, 366 legislators supported the resolution, 34 spoke against it, and one abstained. The resolution came after a failed attempt to pass a bipartisan bill that would have temporarily funded the government for three months.
Despite the fact that Democrats and Republicans have found a compromise on the budget, efforts to advance the bill have faced difficulties. Such well-known figures as Elon Musk and Donald Trump opposed the document, which actually blocked its adoption. Trump proposed making significant changes to the bill, but his initiatives did not find support among Republicans. Moreover, while some of Trump's fellow party members supported his stance on the budget, his proposals to lift restrictions on the US debt limit met with the most resistance.
In the absence of an agreement on the three-month funding, lawmakers decided to adopt a resolution to temporarily fund the government at the previous year's level with some additions. This document will be valid until March 14.
The bill must now be approved by the Senate to be sent to US President Joe Biden for his signature. The White House said that Biden will sign the resolution to ensure the smooth operation of the US government.
