The United States is dating the UN Security Council resolution on Palestine's recognition as a full -fledged UN member. The project was presented by Algeria, and 12 of the 15 Security Council members, including France, China, Russia and others, voted for it. The United Kingdom and Switzerland were abstained, but the United States used their veto.
US Department of State Department Vedant Pavent stated that there was no unanimity regarding Palestine compliance with criteria for membership in the UN.
Palestine Mahmud President Abbas condemned the veto of the United States, calling him "unfair, unethical and unjustified."
The Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan noted that the Palestinians did not meet the criteria for full membership of the UN and accused the Palestinian administration of supporting terrorism.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albers supported Palestine's recognition as a state, noting that it is good for Israel's security and would facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
