The US calls on the EU to tie the freezing of Russian assets to the end of the war

The joint initiative of the United States and the European Union to tie the freezing of Russian assets to the end of the war in Ukraine is gaining momentum, the Financial Times reports.

According to the publication, the USA is demanding from the EU to support this measure in order to provide Ukraine with a loan in the amount of 50 billion dollars, which will be repaid at the expense of the profit from the specified assets.

Currently, the freeze continues every six months. Such a decision of the EU will require the consent of Hungary. Experts doubt that it will be possible to implement it.

Another considered option - the EU and the "Big Seven" countries will issue bilateral loans to Ukraine itself, supported by profits from frozen Russian assets. It will not be possible to adopt such an option quickly.

It will be recalled that earlier the EU decided that it would not pay Russia the income from its frozen assets even after the lifting of sanctions.
