The Australian Communications and Media (ACMA) has officially warned Starlink, which provides the Internet Services satellite due to a repeated violation of the requirements for submission of user complaints. About it reports SBS News.
According to local law, telecommunications companies serving more than 30,000 active clients are required to submit quarterly reports on consumer complaints within 30 days after completion of each quarter. SpaceX Starlink, Ilona Maska, violated this norm four times in a row - from October 2023 to July 2024.
"Starlink's inability to file the necessary reports on complaints in a timely manner prevented ACMA to control the fulfillment of its obligations to consumers by the company," said Samanth York regulator representative.
After the investigation, the Starlink provided the necessary data on the insoluble complaints and cooperated with the regulator throughout the verification process.
Starlink satellite services have become widely popular in the regional regions of Australia, where slower copper Internet networks are still used instead of modern fiber optic infrastructure.
ACMA warning is not yet accompanied by penalties, but may be grounds for further sanctions if the violations are repeated.
