The European Union remains open to Ukrainian exports, and no termination of free trade between Ukraine and the EU is planned. This was stated by Viceremier-Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stephanyshyn on the evening of May 22.
According to her, a dialogue has already been launched between Ukraine and the EU to develop a long -term trade regulation mechanism. The new rules that will come into force on June 6, 2025 after the end of the current autonomous trade preferences are temporary measures to avoid acute disputes.
Stephanishina stressed that the European Commission has made a decision on transitional mechanisms to prevent the worst scenarios. In the future, the parties plan to update the free trade agreement and make it more sustainable.
Earlier, a number of European media and agricultural associations have been concerned about possible restrictions on import of Ukrainian products. The Viceremier's statement is intended to reassure market participants and emphasize the stability of trade relations with the EU, even in spite of some regional difficulties.
