The Shevchenkivsky District Court of Kyiv chose a measure of restraint for the defendants of a resonant case for the supply of substandard mortar shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. All four suspects will be in custody until June 27 - without bail.
It is, in particular, about the CEO of the Defense Plant in Dnipropetrovsk, Leonid Schiman and his first deputy Alexei Kirichenko. They are suspected of supplying defective mortar shots for the Ukrainian military.
In addition to the heads of the enterprise, two former employees of the Ministry of Defense were arrested: the exclusive of one of the military missions Mikhail Shkurrenko and the head of the control group of the same unit Yuri Yaresko.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained all the persons involved in late April. According to the investigation, the ammunition was not met with technical requirements and could threaten the lives of servicemen.
Prosecutors insisted on a closed trial due to the presence of restricted information in the case - in particular, about logistics, equipment and other sensitive data of defense.
The investigation is ongoing. If the suspects are proved, they are threatened with long -term imprisonment for the waste of public funds in the conditions of martial law and undermining Ukraine's defense capability.
