The Military Court of the Democratic Republic of the Congo issued a death sentence to 37 persons, including three US citizens, for participating in the unsuccessful attempt at the coup this year. About it reports Reuters.
The sentence and place of court
The court session was held in the courtyard of the NDOLO military prison, located on the outskirts of the capital of Kinshasa. Three Americans found guilty of criminal conspiracy, terrorism and other offenses, after which they were assigned a death penalty. Citizens of Great Britain, Canada, Belgium and Congo are also accused.
In total, about 50 people were faced with a court of attempting a coup, but death sentences were issued 37 accused. Other suspects received less strict sentences or justifiers.
US reaction
The US State Department has already responded to the situation. Matthew Miller spokesman said that the American Embassy in the Congo was present at the court hearings and would continue to monitor the further development of events. The fate of American citizens convicted to death remains uncertain, as the United States actively oppose the death sentences to their citizens abroad.
