The 65-year-old Okhtyrka pensioner is found guilty of causing bodily harm during a conflict in the supermarket. As stated in the verdict of the Okhtyr City Court of June 18, 2024, the man hit another buyer with frozen mackerel in the forehead. The victim, who was the deputy of the Okhtyr City Council, was hospitalized with suspected brain concussion.
The incident happened on April 25. According to the investigation, the pensioner grabbed the frozen fish from his grocery basket and struck it by the opponent in the head, then pushed him away and left the store. The victim received a slaughtered wound and asthenic-neurotic syndrome-these injuries were qualified as easy. During the trial, it turned out that there was a conflict between men for a long time. The accused - a former police officer - stated that at one time he had contributed to the imprisonment of the victim and reported a violation by his trade business, which led to a fine of 106 thousand hryvnias. According to a pensioner, a deputy during a random meeting in the store offended his late mother, who brought him out of balance.
Despite the fact that the man did not admit his guilt, the court found his actions guilty and imposed a punishment in the form of one year of probation. During this time, it must observe the established restrictions: not to change their place of residence without agreement and not to travel abroad.
In addition, the court partially satisfied the civil claim of the victim, deciding to recover from the accused 4 602.59 UAH of material damage and UAH 5,000 - moral compensation.
