In the United Kingdom, a rather absurd judicial saga ended: 66-year-old Lorraine Hatton was tried for 15 months for accidentally breaching the leg of a garden manure. The woman only tried to rearrange the figure that stood on the common track.
The incident happened on March 6, 2024. Lorraine Hatton, an apartment inhabitant in Britain, accidentally broke the right lower leg of the garden gnome, about 45 cm high, belonging to its neighbor, Liliana Chekauskena. Ms. Hutton explained that she just moved the flower pots when the dwarf fell and cracked. She immediately apologized to the neighbor and even left in the Postbox 20 pounds as compensation. However, Chekauskene did not apologize and summoned the police. As a result, the case was brought to court. The woman was called for hearing three times, and the consideration lasted more than a year. The court, after all, justified Lorraine, recognizing that the actions were unintentional, and there was no provocation on her part. After completing the process, Ms Hutton criticized the actions of law enforcement officers, saying it was a waste of time and public funds.
The case required the involvement of a Lithuanian translator for a neighbor, as well as a psychiatric examination for the defendant. All this, according to Lorrain, cost the state thousands of pounds.
