The World Bank has allocated $ 50 million for medicine to Ukraine

Ukraine has received a new funding from the World Bank worth $ 50 million in the process of health care transformation through reform and investment in efficiency. This has become part of the efforts of international partners to support health care reforms, which is one of the key aspects of government transformation in modern challenges.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, these funds will be used to improve the medical guarantee program (PMG), which is the basis of the health care system in the country. The purpose of the project is to help the Government of Ukraine to create a more reliable and efficient system of medical services for citizens.

One of the conditions for obtaining this financing was the increase in the level of capital for primary care. The capital rate determines how much money the state budget allocates for the service of one patient who has chosen his doctor for primary care.

According to the new government decision, since December 2024 the rate for 2025 will be UAH 844.4 instead of UAH 786.65, which was in 2024. This increase is an important step in improving the financing of primary care health care facilities.

The Thrive project also provides a significant improvement in the Medical Guarantee Program (PMG), which is the basis for providing medical services for Ukrainians. The program allows access to the necessary medicines, medical procedures and consultations, which is extremely important for improving the health of the nation.

With this funding and supporting the World Bank, Ukraine will be able to significantly improve the processes of health care of citizens, improve primary care and make medical services more accessible to more people.

This 50 million tranche is part of the total funding that Ukraine received from the World Bank under an agreement signed in December 2024. The total amount of the agreement is $ 449 million, of which $ 249 million was provided by Japan. In 2024, Ukraine already received the first $ 220 million, which contributed to the already implemented stages of reforms.

Financing from the World Bank is provided through PFORR (Program-Foror-Results), which provides that Ukraine will receive funds based on certain results that are clearly verified. This makes it possible to ensure cost efficiency and the implementation of the goals, and also guarantees the transparency and accountability of the health care reform processes.
