Syrian rebels, who entered the capital of Damascus, discovered an underground network of tunnels, which united the residences of Bashar al -Assad and his relatives. The complex, located under the Macher Assad's mansion, brother of the fallen president, is striking.
The video, common on social networks, shows the stairs that lead to the dungeons, where high tunnels branch out, are wide enough so that they can pass trucks. The tunnel network includes ventilation, recreation rooms, bedrooms and large metal doors that open with a button. The rebels claim that these tunnels were completely ready for use.
Macher Assad, Major General and Bashara Assad's brother, was one of the key leaders of Syrian government forces during the 13-year Civil War. His role was to command the elite fourth division of the Syrian army, known for its cruelty. On December 8, 2024, the Syrian rebels captured Damascus without significant resistance, forcing Bashar Assad to escape to Russia. According to the Russian media, Assad and his family received shelter in Moscow. The location of his brother Macher remains unknown. During this time, about 7 million Syrians were forced to leave their homes, many of them settled in refugee camps in neighboring countries or emigrated to Europe.
The world leaders have already responded to the fall of Assad regime. French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Barbarian State has fallen. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhah emphasized the role of Israeli strikes in the Iranian forces and Hezbolly in weakening the regime. Meanwhile, the Kremlin stated that the new Syria leaders are ready to guarantee the safety of Russian military bases in Latak and Tartus.
Western analysts believe that the loss of military bases in Syria can be a serious blow to Russia's ability to project its impact on the Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa.
