The Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand approved the initiative to join the country to Brix under Russia. This will be a step in increasing the international influence of Thailand, the Government spokesman Tea Vacharonke says. He notes that membership in this block will allow Thailand to become more actively involved in the formation of a new world order.
According to recent reports, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates have already joined Brix from January 1st. Thailand is in line for accession with another 15 countries.
The Thailand government noted that the countries that expressed a desire to join Brix received an invitation for the 16th summit planned in Kazan from October 22 to 24. Participation in this event is considered possible to accelerate the process of joining Thailand and strengthen its positions among developing countries.
In addition, Thailand has expressed a desire to apply for joining the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which brings together the 38 most developed countries of the world.
From January 1, 2024, Brix has expanded new members, to which Egypt, Iran, united Arab Emirates and Ethiopia joined. Argentina and Saudi Arabia were also invited to the bloc, however, the new President of Argentina, Havier Mili, refused to enter and decided to postpone the decision in Riyadh.
Brix, which was formed in 2009, aims to increase the impact of its participants in the world and reform international financial institutions for better representation of developing countries.
