Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the US's decision to rename the Gulf into American. The statement was made in response to President Donald Trump's decrees signed by him after inauguration. Sheinbaum emphasized that for Mexico and for the whole world, this region will remain the Gulf of Mexico.
"This is not only geographical but symbolic. For us and all over the world it is still the Gulf of Mexico," the President of Mexico emphasized.
In her statement, Sheinbaum also pointed out that Trump's new decrees, in particular the emergency situation on the southern border and protocols for the protection of migrants, have no significant changes compared to those issued during Trump's first presidential term. She stressed that Mexico would remain true to its constitution and laws, and will always act on the protection of the independence and rights of their citizens, including those living in the United States.
"We will always act in defense of our independence, to protect our compatriots living in the United States. We are acting within our constitution and laws. We always act with a cold head," Sheinbaum said.
The President of Mexico emphasized the need to maintain diplomatic relations between countries, maintaining respect for the national interests of each of them.
