Time magazine presented a list of contenders for the title of "Man of the Year 2024". This annual distinction is awarded to persons, groups, or ideas that have had the greatest impact on the world during the year, regardless of whether this influence was positive or negative.
The nominee list included:
- Kamala Harris , the current Vice President of the United States and presidential candidate (already received this rank in 2020 with Joe Biden);
- Catherine , Princess Wales;
- Ilon Musk , founder Tesla and SpaceX, who was previously a person of the year in 2021;
- Yulia Navalna , the widow of Russian opposition Alexei Navalny;
- Benjamin Netanyaga , Israeli Prime Minister;
- Jerome Powell , Head of the US Federal Reserve;
- Joe Rogan , American podcaster and comedian;
- Claudia Shaynbaum , the first female president of Mexico;
- Donald Trump , the newly elected President of the United States (received the title in 2016);
- Mark Zuckerberg , Meta founder and Facebook developer (man of the year in 2010).
The title of "Man of the Year 2023" was awarded to American singer Taylor Swift for its significant cultural influence, including the musical industry.
In the past years, not only well -known politicians and cultural figures, but also contradictory personalities have been received. For example, Hitler, Stalin and Putin also appeared among the winners. In 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Spirit of Ukraine were awarded, which became a recognition of the determination of the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russian aggression.
The final winner of 2024 will be announced in December.
