Tomorrow, the European Union will launch a new system for transforming the borders of the Schengen area

From tomorrow, the European Union will start implementing a new automated system for collecting personal data when transforming the borders of the Schengen area, Euronews reports.

The new system, known as EES (European Entry/Exit System), will process the data of all non-EU nationals, regardless of whether they need a visa to enter the Schengen area. However, this system will not apply to holders of long-term visas and residence permits, such as Ukrainians who have already received asylum in Europe.

The EES will replace the manual stamping of passports with automated terminals that will appear at all external borders of the EU, with the exception of Cyprus, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

It was planned that the launch of the system would take place in 2022, but due to various delays, the implementation process was repeatedly postponed.
