US President Donald Trump reported a telephone conversation with the Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, which took place on February 12. According to the American leader, the discussion was "long -lasting and very productive" and has covered a number of important issues, including the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence and International Financial Stability.
Trump stated that he and Putin agreed on the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. “We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other. We have also agreed that our relevant teams will start negotiations immediately, and we will start by calling President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, ”Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
In order to implement these initiatives, the US President instructed the key representatives of his administration - the Secretary of State Mark Rubio, CIA Director John Retcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Volts and Special Envoy Steve Vitcoff - to lead the negotiation process.
The Kremlin confirmed the fact of the conversation, noting that it lasted 1.5 hours. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin agreed with Trump on the need for diplomatic settlement of war in Ukraine. The Russian leader also invited Trump to Moscow for further negotiations, expressing his willingness to meet between US and Russian officials on issues of mutual interest.
Thus, a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two states can be the first step towards new peace initiatives, although their specific conditions and possible consequences remain uncertain.
