Trump put duties on pause after meeting with ministers

US President Donald Trump has temporarily refused to introduce large -scale duties after a private conversation with Finance Minister Scott Bessent and the Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnik. About it reports The Wall Street Journal.

The meeting was made possible by the accidental absence of Peter Navarro's merchant advisor, known for its rigid protectionist views. Usually, Navarro is near the President and blocks other government members to Trump on trading issues. However, on April 9, he had a different meeting in the rest of the White House. This was used by the Bessent and Lutk, who, without unnecessary witnesses, convinced the president to take a 90-day pause in the implementation of customs policy. Following the negotiations, Trump made a public statement in Trutth Social, in which he announced the decision to delay the introduction of duties. Despite the fact that the press service of the Bessent and Lutnik refrained from official comments, insiders told reporters that the whole team was working harmoniously and rumors about internal conflicts were exaggerated.

It is worth noting that Navarro has recently conflicted with entrepreneur Ilon Musk. He stated that Tesla "does not produce cars" but "just collects them from foreign parts." In response, Musk called Trump's advisor "blunt as a tube."
