US President Donald Trump said representatives of the United States and Ukraine discussed a possible peace agreement and control over the occupied territories. The American leader told this during a briefing with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on March 13.
According to Trump, the negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia and concerned in particular the issues of control over strategic objects, including a "large power plant". Probably, the US President meant a Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Energodar, which has been under Russian occupation since 2022.
"It is a power plant, you know, a large power plant, who will receive a power plant, and who will receive it and that," Trump said, emphasizing the importance of these issues in the framework of discussions.
The US president also said that the US and Ukraine delegations discussed the concepts of territories distribution. "You know, we discussed the concepts of land because you do not want to waste time on ceasefire, if it does not mean anything," he explained.
Trump added that the ceasefire issue is still in the discussion process. "We would like to see the ceasefire from Russia ... Many details of the final agreement are actually discussed. Now we will see if Russia is there, and if not, it will be a very disappointing moment for the world," he summed up.
Negotiations in Saudi Arabia testify to active diplomatic efforts from the US and Ukraine to achieve a peace agreement, although their results remain uncertain.
