Trump considers the economy a major factor in Russia's position on war

US President Donald Trump has stated that economic difficulties, including a significant fall in oil prices, are forcing Russia to seek opportunities to end the war against Ukraine. He said this when communicating with journalists on May 5.

According to the American leader, Moscow is beginning to demonstrate readiness for peace talks, and the key incentive for this was the fall in the value of oil in the world markets. Trump also believes that Ukraine is interested in peace because the conflict causes both sides of tremendous losses.

- I think that Russia, given the price of oil that has fallen now ... We have every chance of negotiating. They want to negotiate. Ukraine wants to negotiate, - Trump said.

The President stressed that the current situation on the front not only carries large losses for both states, but also causes deep humanitarian anxiety. In particular, he mentioned the death of civilians as a result of shelling.

- This is a very scary thing. And I think we have gone a long way, and maybe something happens, ”Trump added, hinting at possible shifts in the direction of settlement.

In his statements, Trump has also traditionally emphasized the importance of his role in resolving international conflicts. In his opinion, it is his stay in the post of president that contributes to the activation of peace processes.

"If I did not become president, no one would deal with this situation," he said.

Trump's statement was made against the background of further deepening of geopolitical tension in Europe and an increase in concern in the United States about the long-term nature of the Russian-Ukrainian war. In 2025, international markets really show instability, in particular in the field of energy resources. Analysts indicate that the fall in oil prices, the sanction policy of the West, and the rising cost of war, create serious pressure on the Russian economy.

Official Moscow publicly does not recognize the desire to make concessions due to economic reasons. However, Western experts believe that the Kremlin may increase fears of long -term endurance under global isolation and reserves.

At the same time, Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that any peace talks are possible only if the Russian troops are completely withdrawal from its territory. In Kiev, they are skeptical of the ceasefire without guarantees of sovereignty and safety.

Thus, Trump's statement can have both diplomatic and political implications, especially given the approach of the US presidential election. Its rhetoric traditionally combines calls for peace with the criticism of the previous course of Baiden administration, which Trump accuses of delaying war.
