US President Donald Trump has made a sharp call to European countries to pay significant financial reparations, saying that negotiations with Europe will not begin until the continent agrees to annual payments, both for present and past violations.
According to Trump, the United States has already entered high duties on European goods, and now European countries have to "pay" for it. He also noted that his strategy is aimed at reducing the US trade deficit, in particular with China, because of the country's huge debt to Beijing. Trump stressed that trade disputes with China intensified after the United States raised duties on Chinese goods, which led to the fall of world stock markets, in particular to Wall Street. Accordingly, China also increased the import fees for US products to 34%, which only complicated the situation. However, Trump does not feel pity for these changes, noting that sometimes "sharp measures" should be taken to correct the trade deficit. The US President added that negotiations with other countries can only begin when these countries offer the US "exceptional" conditions. Now it is most important for him - solving the problem of trade balance, and he is not ready to compromise until this issue is resolved.
Last week, Trump also stated that he was ready to negotiate with other countries, but only if they offer something "phenomenal". On April 2, the President announced the introduction of mutual duties for countries around the world, setting a minimum base tariff of 10%, but Russia was not included in the list of these countries.
