Turkey is increasing its energy ambitions

Turkey has ambitious plans for the development of energy infrastructure in the Black Sea. According to Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Aleshaklan Baractara, the country is going to start new drilling work in order to find oil in the southwestern Black Sea. In particular, it is about oil reconnaissance in the Chayeli area, which is in the Cryne Province, where there is already assumption about the availability of significant deposits.

These plans are part of Turkey's overall strategy aimed at increasing energy independence. In addition to finding new oil fields, Turkey is actively developing natural gas production in the Black Sea. Currently, about 7 million cubic meters of gas is produced at the Sakari gas field, located on the Black Sea shelf. It is expected that by the first quarter of 2025 this number will exceed 9 million cubic meters per day.

According to Baracter, Turkey plans to further increase production in the near future. Gas volumes are expected to reach 9.5-10 million cubic meters, and in the future they can grow to 20 million cubic meters a day.

Thus, Turkey sets itself the task not only to provide itself with the necessary energy resources, but also to increase its role in the world energy market, increasing the production of hydrocarbons on the Black Sea shelf.
