Turkey and Iraq plan to create a joint counterterrorism center

Turkey and Iraq are actively working on the creation of a joint operational center to counteract terrorist threats, in particular, Turkey is trying to create a "safety zone" in width of 30-40 kilometers near its border. This information was provided by representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

"We have negotiations with Iraq at different levels. After the second meeting, which took place in December, a meeting in Baghdad recently took place. We are preparing to sign a frame strategic document between the two countries. One of the issues we would like to include in this document is the creation of a joint operational center."

The technical aspects of the center will be agreed after the relevant document is signed.

It is also noted that the Iraqi side is positively accepting Turkey's proposals for cooperation in combating terrorism.

The main task for Turkey is to confront the terrorist threat outside its borders, in particular in the area 30-40 kilometers from the Turkish-Iraq border.
