For the first time in history, Belgium will form a government headed by the right nationalist party. On January 31, the Royal Palace confirmed that King Philip was informed of a coalition agreement between the Flemish Nationalist Party of N-VA and four more parties, reports Vienna.at.
The new government will be headed by 54-year-old Bart de Wever, the head of the N-VA, who has previously held the post of Antwerp Mayor. The main purpose of the new government will be to reduce the budget deficit and reduce the country's debt load. Radical reforms are expected to influence social programs.
The exact date of the Oath of the Prime Minister and the members of the government is still unknown, it will be announced later.
The N-va Party won the parliamentary elections in June, gaining the greatest support. It advocates the expansion of autonomy of economically developed Flanders. Together with the MR Liberal Party, Christian Democrats in both regions and Flemish Social Democrats, it will form the so-called "Arizonian coalition".
Although the government will lead the rights of the party, the centrist parties will have a majority in the coalition, so there is no radical shift to the right.
The formation of government in Belgium is a complex process through the language-territorial division of the country: most parties represent separately French-speaking vallonia or Dutch-speaking Flanders. In these negotiations, the traditionally intermediary role is played by King Belgium.
